Debbie undertook basic nursing education and training before proceeding to Midwifery and later Health Visiting (Public Health) in Manchester, England. She worked in maternity care ranging from prenatal, labour and delivery, postpartum as well as neonatal intensive care. Working as a midwife/health visitor utilized her expanded role as a member of a very busy primary health care team. Health Visiting extended her work with families starting with pregnancy and extending to provision of developmental assessments and family support up until children starting school. Debbie believes in providing midwifery care as well as the promotion of health and the prevention of illness in a community oriented setting.

In May 2007 Debbie obtained her Canadian Midwifery Certificate via the International Midwifery Pre-Registration Program at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario.
