BRIDGET MENSAH RN, RM, HV (PUBLIC HEALTH)
Bridget trained as a nurse before proceeding to pursue Midwifery and later Health Visiting (Public Health) in Ghana, West Africa. She worked collaboratively in various maternity care settings such as rural settings, community clinic and teaching hospital providing maternity care from prenatal, labour,delivery, and postpartum. Working as a Midwife and Health Visitor, Bridget utilized her expanded role in providing family planning services, well baby clinic, immunization services, school health services, home visits, and training of traditional birth attendants (TBAs). Health Visiting extended her work with families from pregnancy to the provision of developmental assessment and family support until children start school. Bridget believes in providing accessible community based midwifery care to her clients. In December 2002, Bridget arrived in Saskatoon with her family and has since been working as an RN at Royal University Hospital. In March 2009, she was the only candidate from Saskatchewan among the first group of internationally trained midwives to undertake the MMBP at the University of British Columbia for seven months. The MMBP is a bridging program for qualified midwives trained outside of Canada. The program assists midwives to transition and adapt their knowledge and skills to Canadian context and culture. As part of the bridging program she also worked with the midwives in Saskatoon. Bridget wrote and passed the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam as well as the Objective Structured Clinical Exam in 2009. Bridget is excited to be part of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region Midwifery Program and looks forward to working collaborately with clients and all stakeholders.
