The Midwifery Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) was founded in 1987.
In 2000 MAS was registered as a non-profit organization. MAS was created in response to the need to form a collective body to to support midwives looking to work in Saskatchewan. Further, MAS evolved due to the need to put pressure on the Saskatchewan government to regulate midwifery. This pressure was from people such as the midwives, midwifery supporters and community members.
On March 14, 2008 Saskatchewan regulated midwifery.
